Red Phone Booth Nashville Grand Opening
If you are into history and trivia like me, you might be aware that today holds some historical significance. No, I’m not talking about America’s 1st bicycle college opening in 1868. Possibly Walt Disney’s birthday? Nope. In my mind, December 5th will always be known as Repeal Day. It was on this day in 1933 that prohibition ended. To paraphrase Prince, so tonight I’m gonna party like it’s 1933.
Appropriately enough, December 5th will also be known as the grand opening of Red Phone Booth in Nashville. This will be their 2nd location alongside their 1st one in Atlanta. Red Phone Booth is a literal antique red phone booth shipped here from London. You have to know and dial a secret phone number for a hidden panel to open allowing you to walk inside a completely renovated 100-year-old building.
This building formerly housed a coffee shop/marketing agency where I spent my weekly nine to five. So, trust me when I tell you that the renovations were extensive and the space has been totally transformed. The atmosphere offers the look and feel of a 1920’s speakeasy concept. Grab a cigar and a rare bourbon and you will truly feel like you have traveled back in time.
To complete the prohibition experience they offer turn of the century craft cocktails. You will find an unmatched bartending flair that brings a new and unique vibe to the Nashville scene. I saw a blindfolded, machete-wielding ice carver. Plus a full-on pyromaniac making smokey old fashioned cocktails and walking a proverbial tightrope between spectacle and setting the smoke alarms off. You will also notice the finest attention to detail with freshly squeezed juices and cut to order garnishes.
Complementing the craft cocktails is an exclusive cigar program. Housed in their cavernous walk-in humidor is a selection of over 100 labels. They even offer two house cigars as well. If you're worried about all that cigar smoke, don’t be. Red Phone Booth has invested heavily in their fresh-air units and air scrubbers. So the air is completely replaced every four minutes.
One thing that you will not find here is an extensive food menu. The concept is not meant to be a restaurant, but they do offer some 1920s-inspired small plates and authentic Neapolitan pizza.
I would highly encourage you to seek out that secret phone number that is only available to friends, members, or local concierges. I guarantee you, this experience is worth the extra effort. I’ll see you at the hottest joint in town. It’s the bee’s knees! Just don’t ask me for the phone number.
